The Rood Fair - Then, Now, Us.

The Rood Fair – Then, Now, Us is a photographic project exploring Dumfries Rood Fair as a place of memory, movement and shared experience. Returning year after year, the fair becomes more than an event, it is something collectively remembered, re-imagined and lived through generations


Through moments of light, motion and pause, this work looks at how the fair has existed in the past, how it appears today, and how it continues to shape a sense of belonging in the present. The images move between observation and participation, reflecting the rhythm of the fair itself, familiar and deeply human.


Rooted in documentary practice, the project is less about spectacle and more about connection: the small gestures, the in-between moments, and the way place holds stories long after the lights fade.
