Isle of Jura
A Slow Bikepacking Journey Through Scotland’s Wild West Coast
There’s a quietness to Jura that feels hard to explain until you arrive there. One long empty road, shifting weather, red deer appearing out of the mist, and stretches of coastline where it feels like the landscape has been left untouched for decades.
This trip began with loaded bikes and no real plan beyond moving slowly through the island and paying attention to what unfolded along the way. Ferry crossings, roadside stops, cold mornings, damp kit, and long climbs became part of the rhythm of the journey.
One of the reasons I wanted to capture this adventure on film, was so I took a slow approach to taking the images.
These photographs are less about the destination and more about the feeling of travelling through a place like Jura, the isolation, the stillness, the changing light, and the small moments that often get missed in between.
A visual story shaped by movement, landscape, and life on the road.
